Review: Everyday Minerals

Sunday, May 18, 2008

I've seen and heard so much about Everyday Minerals that I finally had to see for myself. I received some samples before but none of the shades matched my skintone. So, I got some more samples and I'm still kind of unsure of my shade. A common issue I've heard about EDM is that there might not be a color for you. While they do offer a large variety of shades, I know some have still struggled to find their exact color. Your best bet is to mix shades to create a custom blend. Finally after mix and matching, I think Light could potentially be my winter color, where as my summer color is a mix of Light Olive and Golden Medium. It took me a while to figure this out, but EDM is pretty generous with their samples so I've had plenty of product to play with. If you can't find your shade at first, don't get discouraged and try mixing.

EDM is a very finely milled powder. It has a velvet smooth texture and is not chalky at all. It's so fine, it's almost creamy when you blend it into your skin. There is no cakey or heavy feeling when building coverage. I like my Maybelline Mineral Power Loose Powder Foundation, but EDM has a much creamier application and I prefer that. I think the more high-quality the product, the more creamy the foundation tends to be.

I have tried formulas in Original Glo, Intensive, and Matte. I thought I chose a sample with Semi-matte, but I must have missed clicked when ordering, so I have yet to try it. I did not like Original Glo. I think it's too sparkly for me. I think it was more shimmery than actual glow. I like to wear highlighters, so with this formula I looked like a disco ball. Intensive is slightly heavier in feeling than the other formulas but provides more coverage. Of the 3 formulas, I liked Matte the best, but I found it to be almost too plain. When I mixed some Original Glo with Matte, I had great success! I wasn't overly shimmery or too blank looking. I'm guessing that I will like the Semi-matte formula the best.

I also tried the Spring concealer which was much too dark for me. The Multi-tasking concealer is totally awesome! I don't like using MMU for my under eyes, but I love it for concealing acne scars. It works so well and I would definitely recommend this concealer.

I got two blushes in All Smiles and Girl's Day. All Smiles is a matte bright peachy shade while Girl's Day is orange rust shade with gold shimmer. I don't think I would use Girl's Day as a blush, but more as an all-over color for summer. The blushes are highly pigmented and a little will go a long way. Since you only need so little to achieve a perfect flush, the sample they send is a lot for application. It's nice for on the go travel and touch ups.

If you haven't already bought or tried Everyday Minerals (though I'm sure you have), I'd recommend that you least try their sample kit for about $4 shipped. The samples are very generous and you get plenty of uses. It's very affordable and inexpensive when you purchase a custom kit. I would say the quality is superior than your regular drugstore MMU and perhaps even Bare Minerals. I know some people break out from Bare Minerals due to the bismuth oxychloride. You should be happy to know, EDM does not use this ingredient. I'd say the two are very comparable in terms of product quality, but EDM has the edge due to its' consumer friendly prices.

After trying out SN sample kit I'm pretty happy with EM there is just no comparison! EM gives my face/skin life I just love it! I also love their deals and promos! Plus you get so much for a free sample kit :) You might wanna give intensive a try if you don't want that all over matte finish. Some reason I'm allergic to their original glo.

i quite like EDM.. especially the mint concealer.. i get redness quite a lot >_< i swear the color changes with the formula, my semi-matte color seems to look slightly lighter than the exact shade in intensive! lol..

I meant to type 'give intensive another try' >_<; I just ordered my refills thanks to you :) Even though I have a shitload of samples and 3 regular sizes I am just inlove with Golden Medium (this time in matte)! I want a less glow over all look for the summer and get hints of glow from bronze me thinks :) I also noticed it's my color the last few weeks of winter to now. If you do order again do try the mint concealer like Nic mentioned, it's one of my favorites! I have 2 samples of it lol :D

Nic: I noticed that too with different formulas. I guess it's all in the dependency of the formulas coverage that gives the slight shade changes.

I still think EM tops SN. Fuck SN made my nose itch for hours! lol xD

Intensive for me has a heavier feeling if I apply too much of it. With two taps from the container into my mixing bowl it covers great for me on the face down to the neck (without heavy feeling). It also doesn't give me a very blank dull canvas look (atleast I don't think so lol) I also tend to mix foundies too depending on my mood, wanting or not wanting glow etc. I forgot to mention sunlight concealer is also fabulous! Even though I only need concealing on my under eye area, mint, sunlight and multi are my favorite for those yucky break out days. Arashi has raved about Buff'd mmu, but idk after trying out SN which so many including herself (I believe too) has raved about don't think I want to waste more money on other mmu since I already have so much EM in my stash (some even unopened still! I order too many sample kits lol)

Glad to read you found a mix that works for you. It did take me a few samples to figure out my shade too! But the samples are so generous tons of trial and error was not a big bust on my wallet. SN sucks with their sample, it's soooo little! UGH!

i still need to find my perfect shade, but i love that austin is close to where i am! i get my order pretty fast =) i really looooooove austin. it's the best place in the world. i think it's the music capitol of the world. or so i've heard on tv. i love how they have music festivals and big bands come to play and everyone just walks around and has drinks! 6th street is the BEST place to be. Nothing but blocks of bars so you just park your car at one place and walk around the rest of the night barhopping and going to clubs! it's great!!!!!!!! i need to try out some more EM powders!

I use EDM sometimes. It's actually the FIRST MMU line that I sampled... which I guess is responsible for my MMU addiction now. LOL. Their foundation is actually not my HG foundie anymore, BUT I still LOVE their concealers! :) But when I first got introduced to mineral makeup and I tried out EDM... I was WOWED! It was love at first touch. LOL.

I noticed Nic Nic saying that some shades are darker and/or lighter between formulas and this is TRUE. Intensive is DARKER thank the other formulas. I don't know why, but it is. LOL. :P Also, I recall many complaining of the foundies being different colors upon different times of ordering, but I THINK they resolved their color inconsistencies. :P

Anywho, great review! Glad you enjoy the mineral makeup. I hate most drugstore mineral makeup because they're just milking the whole mineral makeup craze AND some/most of them still do have fillers, preservatives, or something of that nature... thus rendering it NOT mineral makeup. LOL. :P IMO anyhow. :P

everyday minerals is all i use, its such a great product. I don't really like their brushes though, their kabuki sheds like crazy and it is pretty rough on the face. but the foundations and blushes are wonderful, i haven't tried the lip glosses or the eyeshadows yet!

Thanks for the review. I on the otherhand like Original glow, but can only wear it when my face is on the drier side, which is rare. But I'll try the mixing two formulas.

I too noticed the color isn't the same with diff formulas. But I find original glo the darkest, you can see it even on the container.

I'll recommend mint and sunlight concealers too! I started with semi-matte formula on foundations, it's lighter and liked it until I tried matte and intensive.

EDM has great deals, especially with the kits. Don't forget to try the brushes, they're so soft, buffs mmu well and only $10! If you add it with the kit, then the price is 50% less.

Hi Gee!! Awww, I missed you too. Everythings been so busy with me lately but, I'll try to post stuff when I can.

I've recently started Everyday Minerals as well. I really like it so far. My best match was Olive - Golden Medium in Intensive. I haven't tried the other formulas yet but I'm pretty happy with the sample I got so I'll probably purchase that in full size. I got a sample of the concealer as well but I have no clue how to use it =/ so I'm still using my MAC concealer which works fine.

I hope you figure out which color suits you best! I'm glad I found my color in one try and I don't have to mix colors together (I'm lazy and I don't think I'll be good at doing that!). <3<3

EM was the first company that I tried, and after trying out multiple companies, I have to say that it comes back to EM & Alima all the time. I love all the products that EM offer, but Alima has better coverage and color selection. It's a bit more costly, but my full size is lasting me a long time, and I got it last summer.

Unfortunately I have had the worst customer service from Everyday Minerals. I ordered and paid for products on August 16th and after 3 weeks my order status still showed "pending". After numerous e-mails inquiring about my order and receiving no response at all (besides one that told me to e-mail a different department) I finally filed a dispute with PayPal. EM finally responded to me after I filed my dispute that they cancelled my order on Sept 9th but they didn't mention refunding my money. After several more e-mails (that I linked with the PayPal dispute notice) they finally responded that they couldn't refund PayPal until I provided them with my PayPal info which I provided. It is now Sept 19th and they still haven't issued the refund. They have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE phone number which is very convenient for them but not for the customer. I am sorry that I ever found them on the Web and am hoping to prevent someone else from getting ripped off.
